SNOW!!!!

Ok, you all may think this is silly.
And yes - I don't live far from the snow at all.
But - I don't know how to drive in it.  I don't have clothes for it.  And I guess I've just never really had any super snow bunny friends to go with me or get me to go.

Back when I was in High School I dated a guy who was a big skier.  We went to the snow a bunch but I didn't appreciate it that much.  I have seen snow fall out of the sky 1 time in my life on a senior trip to New York in 1993/94. Then the last time I was in the snow was when I was married.  Sometime between 1999-2004 my then husband and I went with a bunch of other couples and rented a cabin in the snow.  It didn't snow while we were there, but snow was everywhere and we had a great weekend of drinking, playing games and sledding.  That was the very last time I was in the snow.

I think snow is so beautiful!  Now - I'm not a skier, or a snow boarder for that matter and being cold and wet is not an ideal situation for me.  BUT - snow is so beautiful!  And it's romantic.  And it can be fun right?!  Making a snowman, making snow angels, kissing in the snow fall, going tubing or sledding, looking at snowflakes and just admiring how beautiful it makes everything.

A bucket list item is to have a white Christmas some day.  My very favorite scene in A Christmas Story is the very end when the mom and dad sit by the lighted up Christmas tree in the dark with a glass of wine and snow is falling outside.  Seriously one of the most beautiful romantic moments EVA!

How pretty right?!
Also - I know it's so corny - but it's so sweet and romantic whenever anyone is kissing in the snow fall!!!

So romantical!

Right?!?!

I mean come on!!!
Ok...I'm getting very carried away.

Anywhoo - I got to go play in the snow yesterday!!!

Pat text me on Sat saying he was thinking of taking Elise up to Wrighwood to go tubing and was I interested in joining?

I borrowed some snow clothes from 2 girlfriends of mine and was ready to go!

Wrightwood is like RIGHT THERE!  It only took us an hour to get there, there's no swirly mountain roads and IT'S RIGHT THERE!  I don't know why I haven't gone before.  One tip - go early.  Our plan was to go tubing.  They have an actual tubing area you pay (not cheap) to tube, but you can go ski/snowbard/etc.  It's Mountain High!  I've heard of this but didn't know it was so friggin close.  We left the OC area about 7am and zipped there in about an hour.  We parked, got right in and got tickets for the 1st slot for tubing - 8:30-10:30am.  It was awesome!  There was barely anyone there.  I don't think I waited more than 1 or 2 tubes behind at a time.  But when we left - Holy Crap the line of cars was INSANE!  So - go early!

I'M IN THE SNOW!

Weird Yeti
We almost tubed the entire time.  I so would have gone up until 10:30 on the dot, but the little was over it a bit before that.  But we got so many rides in!  My 1st 2 rides were really slow so Pat told at me to get another tube.  I did and it was way better!  I sailed down the hill!  They had a little conveyor belt that took you to the top then folks were up there pushing you down the hill.  So much fun!

My love tubing

Hi baby!

Elise tubing

Hey girl!

Look at me!!! In the snow!!!
Since the traffic was too nutty to turn left, we headed back out but stopped in the little town.  They had a tiny little park so we got to actually play in the snow a bit.  There wasn't much but just enough to make a tiny snowman, have some snowball fights and look at the beautiful scenes that the snow made!  There was even a moment when I leaned into Pat as he was leaning against a table and he wrapped his arms around me while Elise was playing in the snow - that feeling - the quiet snow melting around us - so beautiful - I had my little romantic snow moment.

He may be like 10 inches but I was determined to make a snowman!

My pictures didn't catch the beauty but man!

Looooooooooooooved the snow on the branches!  So gorgeous!

I was loving the little paws we were seeing in the snow

Look how pretty!!!!

So pretty right?!?!?!

The snow was melting and dripping like quiet rain and it was just so damn pretty!!

I really wanted to make a snow angel

But there wasn't enough snow.

Look at the pretty snow!!!!

We then had an early lunch in a super kitschy cafe.

This creepy AF owl would lower and raise every time someone would open the door.

Then we hit the candy store then headed back home.  We were back in the OC by 1pm.  Talk about a whole bunch of fun packed into half a day!

I'm so excited to do this more!  I'm probably going to need to look into investing in some of my own snow clothes and boots, but now that it looks like I can get to the snow a bit more it'll be worth it!

I know it really does seem like a simple thing, but I thank Pat so much for getting me to the snow which I've been trying to do for years!!!  I know we'll have more snow adventures with maybe even more snow!

Tweaks...

My year started off with the loss of one of the most special animal companions I have ever had the honor of being rescued by.  I have grown up with animals, mostly cats, and although I love all creatures I would defiantly deem myself a cat person.

Tweaks was a special cat.  Unlike any other I have met.  My heart is broken at the unexpected way to soon loss of her.  I wanted to write a special tribute to her here.

On September 14th, 2007 I found myself in the Dover Shores Animal Shelter in Costa Mesa.  At the time I was living with my roomate Mark and I had a plan to adopt a pair of cats.  Walking into these places rips me apart because I want to take each and every single sad eyed animal behind those cages home with me.  As I sobbed my way through the shelter saying hello and loving on all the fur friends. My last stop was a corner unit that was more like a door rather than a cage.  I opened it up and a tiny black poof ball lay in the corner.  "Hello" I said then the poof moved and 2 tiny heads appeared.  A solid black one and a Tuxedo one with white whiskers and bright eyes.  The Tuxedo kitten let out a very loud mew and I was instantly in love.

I adopted the 2 sisters, gave them a birthday of May since that would land around the time they were a year old according to the shelter folk and brought them home.

The 1st week they were home with me
As I was sitting in the makeshift cubby I made them the black one was in my lap and the Tuxedo girl was running a muck.  I laughed and said "You are quite the little Tweaker aren't you?!" and bam - the name came.  Tweaks.  Tabitha seemed appropriate for her sister since it went along cute with Tweaks and she was a solid black cat like the witches have.

Her constant expression
As the girls grew up, they were relatively close but tended to become their own little personalities as the years went on.  Tweaks was always the fearless one.  Her bright eyes and white whiskers always made her seem like she was permanently surprised by life.

I started to notice that Tweaks was relatively protective of me.  I know cats can be, but when she started growling anytime someone came to the door I realized I had a cat that was like a guard dog.  She growled at thunder.  She had separation anxiety when I was gone.  It got to the point that if I was gone for more than one night I would have to have someone stay at my house.

She loved lotion and smells.  She got to know my morning routine and when I put on my Oil of Olay face lotion she'd run in and want me to pet under her chin so she could lick it off.  When I lived with my roomate she would rub on him when he'd put on cologne.

Loved her some Axe
Every time I would walk in my door - EVERY. DAMN TIME.  She would run to greet me then flop over so I could rub her belly.

Just like this
She absolutely loved to be "in" things.

Where a drawer was

In my old laundry basket

In a box

Always in a box

She loved bags

In my shopping bag
Whenever I would do laundry she was in the laundry bag as soon as I dumped.  Every. Time.

Laundry Day Routine
Every week day morning when I would be in the kitchen making my breakfast and lunch she would sit in the living room and chat with me.  I'm not kidding.  We had entire conversations.  On weekends I usually find myself enjoying a cup of coffee on my couch and she'd be right at my side purring and head butting my coffee as I tried to not spill.

Typical weekend morning
She was constantly where I was.  I mean always.  If I napped, she came in and napped with me.  When I was on the couch watching TV she was there with me.  Whatever room I'm in - she's there.

When I tried to craft

When I tried to wrap presents

When I tried to do yoga

When I thought I was alone
Always. There.
She was so gloriously fat and fluffy and she loved her tummy rubbed.  Only by me of course.

So fat

This happened all the time
All the time

She loved to drape across the top of the couch with her paws hung over.

Toe Beans
She was in tune to my emotions.  If I was mad, she could tell.  Sad, she knew.  If I was happy she was a purring machine.  One time my friend watched her run into the kitchen after I had a temper melt down and started almost crying, she ran in and through my legs and meowed worriedly.  When I sat on the couch to cool down she was next to me head butting and meowing.  My friend looked at me in awe and said "Is your cat in tune with your emotions?!".  Yes.  Yes she was.

She was my baby.  A total mama's girl.

She started losing weight, but nothing of note.  She felt fine was eating, etc.  But a few days before New Year's Eve I knew something was wrong.  She wasn't feeling good.  Then she wasn't eating.  I took her in Sunday the 30th and they did a slew of test/bloodwork/etc.  They called me on the 31st with devastating news.  Her kidneys were failing.  Kidney disease is common in cats but it was so fast.  They gave her a cocktail of drugs, fluid therapy, etc that day.  The plan was if she perked up we could take a hospitalization route.  If she didn't perk up, well, we know.  And that's what happened.  New Years Eve, all that night, New Year's Day and all that night I was curled up on my loveseat couch with her crying and loving on her for the last time.  Her sister was hiding in the back of the house, hissing at her whenever she'd come in.  I guess animals sense when one is sick.  So that was quite stressful as well.  I took one last photo of her during our last cuddle time.

I never stopped petting her
Wednesday morning on January 2nd, my vet and a tech came to my house and I held her in my arms as I let her go.  My dear friend Stacey was at my side and it's a brutal memory that will be seared in my mind forever.  I was happy that I decided to do a house call though.  I wanted so badly for her last moments to be peaceful.

My heart is so sad and broken and I'm so devastated to have lost such a special friend.  But I am truly grateful for the few days I was able to spend with her to say goodbye.

I loved her so very much.

Tabitha has been much more present and loving as of late and I'm sure (even though she seems not to) she misses her sister.

It's not the same without her.  I'm so used to both of the girls being around, especially Tweaks who was ALWAYS around.  Now it's just me and Tabitha and there's a loneliness that  hangs in the air.  I know it will pass, but it's so hard right now.  I've told Tabitha multiple times lately that she needs to stay healthy for a very long time.

There will be a hole in my heart that can never be filled but I am so grateful for the years we had together. She brought so much love and joy into my life.  I will miss you so much my precious girl.

Love your fur babies a little harder my friends.  They're time with us is always way to short.

2018 Recap...

As per usual - I read my last year's re-cap - and oh that's right - 2016 and 2017 were not good years at all.  Like no.  Like damn.  Like both of those years can kiss my and everyone else's ass.

Now - 2018 was slightly different.  Yes...our country is still a shit show.  I'm not even going to touch that right now, because WE ALL KNOW.

So  - 2018 - for me - pretty damn good actually!!  Here we go:

The year started off rough, I jumped back into the Online Dating World and it wasn't going well.

We then had a pretty great moment for Women with the #Metoo Movement.  It actually started at the end of 2017 but was gaining momentum into 2018 with the Times Up Movement.  It felt good to actually feel like something was happening.  It's moving along slowly, but things are changing.  In fact - I'm going to jump ahead to November of this year and remind you all that we had a HUGE number of women win positions in the elections this year and the Dems took back over the House.  So that's good!  It rekindles my little flame of hope that refuses to burn out.  In March of this year on International Women's Day I took part in a pretty amazing night of theatre with Project Women Get Loud.  So I'm feeling good friends.  Shit is starting to happen!

The biggest and best highlight for me this year was:

I MET MY BOYFRIEND WHO IS STILL MY BOYFRIEND AND WE LOVE EACH OTHER AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN DATING A YEAR YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love!
I can't fucking believe it.  It's a total trip having someone in my life.  He's a good man, with a good heart.  We have lots of fun together just the two of us, sometimes with the kiddo, sometimes with friends and fam - we seem to have kind of fit right into each other's lives.  We've taken some trips (you'll see below), we've grown closer, we've opened up to each other, we enjoy horror together, we hike, I could go on and on.  It's been a tough year and our country is a mess, but meeting Patrick has been pretty godamn amazing and he's brought so much happiness into my life.  I look forward to what's to come!

Ok...enough gushing  - onto the rest of the highlights with links to the blogs (because you know I wrote about them):

Easter is always a huge highlight - mom has her annual giant Easter Egg Hunt, and this year was no exception - such a great day!

Easter Girls

Taylor hooked mom and I up at the Knotts Boysenberry Festival which was amazing and delicious!

So. Damn. Delicious.

Pat & I took a trip in May to Paso Robles.  It was a perfect getaway in a new favorite spot!

So happy
Another super fun thing I got introduced to this year was Geocaching!  I've been having so much friggin fun with it, that it got it's own "tab" on my blogspot.  I love it!!!  And I haven't stopped.  I plan to have many more geocaching excursions in 2019!

Cache them all!
Midsummer Scream is always a highlight and this year we had a couple of newbies join us!

Pat & I took a mini vacay to San Diego

I took a nostalgic trip down memory lane when me and some friends visited the Jim Henson exhibit

I actually got to stay a couple of days with mom on her annual San Clemente get away.

My favorite time of year was just as good as always!  We hit Knotts Haunt, Delusion, Horror Nights, Boney Island and the Ghost Train, Taylor's Halloween Pah-tay, Trick or Treating and lots of horror movies!

I crossed of a bucket list item and went Apple Picking!

Pat and I took an absolutely amazing trip to Sedona where we hiked, cached, ate, drink and I so want to go back!!

Best Trip Ever!

Christmas Time came and went like an amazing lovely whirlwind and you can read in the last few blogs.

Unfortunately New Years time took a very tragic turn.  I lost my precious Tweaks.  Her little kidneys basically decided to take a very sudden downturn and the last few days of the year were spent with me on the couch sobbing and trying to make her last days more comfortable and full of love.  I'll be writing a special tribute blog to her when I can actually get through writing/talking about her without breaking down into tears.  I'm completely heartbroken.  I will miss you so much my sweet girl.

I love you my girl
Although 2018 ended on an extremely unexpected sad note, the year itself was pretty good.

Our political environment is still a mess but people are fighting and there is hope and I'm def seeing an upswing.  There's talk of some potential theatre (oh please oh please oh please) projects coming up.  I have a wonderful man in my life.  My mom has 2 of my best girlfriends as her roomies which I think is so awesome.  My brother and his wife bought a house.  I'm in flux with some things in my life be working on getting them sorted out.  I can't believe I'm writing yet another recap of another year gone.  I'm so happy it was better than 2016/2017 and I'm hoping 2019 will be even better!

Happy New Year my dear friends!  I wish you so much love, joy, happiness, laughter, art, adventure and fun!
